 | Irish AIDS Day - Thursday, 15th June 2006 |
|
| |
| In 2005 Dublin AIDS Alliance initiated a
project, sponsored by the Dormant Accounts Fund, entitled 'Dalliance' to
introduce young people to HIV, drug use and sexual health issues through
drama. |
| |
| Dalliance is the first project of its
kind. It is the fusion of arts and health in an integrated
interactive context. Dublin AIDS Alliance conceived the concept for
the project in association with the Project Co-ordinator, basing the form
of the workshops on Augusto Boal's theatre of the oppressed and forum
theatre, and combining them with information sessions focusing on HIV,
sexual health and drug use delivered by specialist staff at DAA. |
| |
| As a backdrop to the peer education
workshops that will role out to the communities in the North Inner City,
Dalliance devised a short play call 'Bang On', which incorporates messages
that are central to the programme. The play was entirely devised by
the participants themselves, in collaboration with the Project
Co-ordinator, and therefore reflects the reality of these young people's
lives and the messages that they deem to be important following their
experience on this programme. |
| |
| 'Bang On' was performed on Irish AIDS Day,
15th June, in Liberty Hall Theatre, with a second performance on 16th
June. The project was very successful both artistically and in terms
of delivering key messages on the issues of HIV, drug use and sexual
health to the target population. |

| |
| "Bang On 2" - World AIDS Day
presented by Concern, Dublin AIDS Alliance and the
National Youth Council of Ireland
Following on from the highly successful
production of 'Bang On' in June 2006, Dalliance staged a second production
reflecting teenagers perceptions on sex, drugs and HIV, focusing on the issues of
stigma and discrimination to coincide with World AIDS Day 2006. The
theme was chosen in response to the Taoiseach's statement at the
United Nations in New York in June 2006, where he articulated a plan to
combat stigma and discrimination against people infected with HIV in
Ireland.
Bang On 2' staged five performances on the week of World
AIDS Day, in Liberty Hall Theatre, and was successful in terms
of delivering key messages on the issues of HIV, drug use, and stigma and
discrimination to the target population.
